Calypte costae

Costa's Hummingbird

Veilchenkopfelfe

While daytime temperatures in the desert can be quite hot, nights can be cool. The Costa's Hummingbird has a normal heart rate of an incredible 500 to 900 beats every minute. However, when temperatures get chilly, the bird can lower this rate to as slow as just 50 heart beats a minute. Female collecting spiderwebs to build her nest. Tucson, Arizona, USA
