Alces alces gigas Alaska - Yukon Moose Alaska - Yukon Elch There are three sub species of Moose including Shiras, Canadian and Alaska-Yukon. Classifications of the sub-species are based on location, and the main distinction is size. The Alaska-Yukon moose is the largest and populates the northern regions. Canadian Moose populate most of the interior of B.C. Shiras are the smallest of the Moose family and are found in the south eastern corner of B.C. and the Midwestern states.
