Kingfisher

Eisvogel

The kingfisher is known in Europe as a "Flying Jewel." This spectacularly colorful bird was in early times admired by the ancient Greeks. In an old Greek legend, the kingfisher's feathers were originally gray, but he left Noah's Ark so quickly that his underside was singed a brown color by the setting sun, and his back acquired the steel blue of the sky.
