Flyfishing for Atlantic salmon at Laerdal, Tana, and Namsen rivers in Norway, in the 1970's and 1980's Together with the Alta river, the Laerdal river is definitely the most legendary among the many hundred salmon rivers in Norway. The river's long angling history and the richly developed culture related to fly angling frames the fishery even today. The impressing list of authoritative persons fishing the river during its 150-year angling history contains Norway's King Harald, the polar explorer Fridtjof Nansen, noble persons from Great Britain, and film stars, artists, and businessmen from all across the world. Even I, the unknown little Joe, was fishing there downstream below King Harald of Norway. The image shows my favorite "Fifty Five" pool in front of the bridge at the river Laerdal. |
