Mustela erminea

Ermine

Hermelin

In the summer season the ermine carries a short fur with a reddish-brown top and a contrasting cream-colored bottom. With the beginning of winter, the ermine colors completely white except for the permanently black tip of its tail. In the absence of snow, it can then easily be seen from afar as it darts across the fields like a rocket, hunting for mice. Utting/Ammersee, Germany
