Bucephala albeola

Bufflehead

Büffelkopfente

These beautiful ducks, smaller relatives of the goldeneye, get their name from the puffy appearance of their head. They are some of the scarcest ducks in North America. When a flock dives for food, almost always at least one bird remains on the surface to watch for danger. Reifel Sanctuary, Ladner, BC. Canada
